The Hydra Facility, located within the Victoria Police Academy, is a state-of-the-art group training facility designed to support immersive scenario-based and simulation training. Transformed from an existing theatre, the refurbishment includes a central conference space surrounded by smaller Syndicate rooms, creating a versatile environment for diverse training needs.

The central conference area facilitates group briefings, debriefings, presentations, and collaborative discussions, while the Syndicate rooms offer tailored spaces for realistic scenario training. Each room is thoughtfully designed with bold colors and lighting to ensure easy differentiation and effective monitoring. Above, a control room allows trainers to observe team interactions, provide real-time feedback, and deliver additional resources as needed.

Complementing the training facilities, a recently refurbished 1,100m² workspace accommodates 200 uniformed staff across two shifts. Key features include reception and public consultation rooms, open-plan office areas, senior staff offices, equipment storage, meeting rooms, and breakout spaces. Specialized areas, such as a holding facility with separate entrances, interview rooms, holding cells, and a fingerprinting section, are seamlessly incorporated. The design emphasizes maximizing natural light by positioning enclosed offices and service zones away from windows, with vibrant accents adding warmth to a neutral palette. Playful graphics inspired by the Victoria Police brand ensure clear wayfinding throughout the space.

Despite challenges in adapting the existing structures, the thoughtful design and innovative approach deliver a highly functional and efficient environment, meeting the diverse operational and training requirements of Victoria Police.
