The Werribee Core Library serves as a vital repository for mineral and soil samples collected from test bore sites across Victoria, some dating back more than 150 years. These materials are stored for examination and testing by various individuals and organisations, requiring a carefully controlled environment to preserve their integrity. Passive measures such as insulation and airtight sealing protect the samples from weather fluctuations and humidity, preventing moisture absorption.
FPPV was engaged to design, document, and administer the expansion of the existing warehouse, accommodating the growing volume of stored samples. The facility was extended to both the east and west of the current building over two separate stages, increasing storage capacity by over 400 pallets. The new warehouse sections were designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing structure, incorporating matching slabs, structural elements, cladding, and shelving. Works were completed while maintaining continuous access to the library and minimizing disruptions to its operations and valuable collections.
