FPPV collaborated closely with Moonee Valley City Council stakeholders to develop a comprehensive masterplan for the Avondale Heights Community Precinct. This masterplan seamlessly integrates the existing basketball court and library into a vibrant community hub. Extensive consultations with the public and various user groups were conducted to ensure the masterplan met the community's needs and aspirations.
The project involves both the adaptation of existing structures and the construction of new buildings, including a Library and Hall. This results in an expanded Library and Learning Centre, Community Rooms, and an Early Years Centre. The new Early Years Centre, which includes Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services, multipurpose spaces, and various public areas for events and circulation, was developed in stages. This phased approach allowed the council to manage the site effectively as funding became available over several years.
The design emphasizes strong connectivity with the surrounding housing, retail, and community facilities. At the heart of the precinct is a Piazza featuring a Multi-Purpose Community Pavilion. The internal layout of the centre is designed to activate the Piazza and other outdoor areas, creating dynamic spaces for community interaction. Youth Recreation Spaces, coffee facilities, barbecues, play spaces, and public art installations are strategically placed to enhance the vibrancy and usability of the development.
The project aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that caters to the diverse needs of the Avondale Heights community. By blending new and existing structures, the precinct offers a harmonious balance of tradition and modernity. The thoughtful design and phased implementation ensure that the community precinct will serve as a central hub for social, educational, and recreational activities for years to come.
