Kialla West Primary School has been a pioneer in implementing open plan teaching, with several classes already utilizing the large, open former library space. Despite facing significant site limitations, such as an irrigation channel on two sides, a major freeway on a third side, and a septic system occupying another open area, the master plan successfully addresses these challenges.

The master plan includes the construction of two new buildings on the south boundary and several internal refurbishments. The primary focus of the project is the first of the proposed new buildings, strategically positioned to bookend the school site and provide an additional buffer to the freeway. This new L-shaped building features two open plan learning areas, one at each end of the 'L', with shared facilities located in the center.

The design also incorporates a new accessible toilet, making the space particularly suitable for Foundation years by reducing the need for supervised travel to the central amenities block. This thoughtful addition ensures that younger students have easy access to necessary facilities, enhancing their overall learning experience.

The redevelopment project not only addresses the physical constraints of the site but also enhances the educational environment by providing modern, flexible learning spaces.
