Prior to joining FPPV, Matthew held several roles within the Faculty of Architecture, Building & Planning at the University of Melbourne, including facilities management assistant, fabrication workshop technician, print support officer, IT assistant and events & exhibitions assistant. From this experience, he has developed an understanding of how large organisations operate and the input required from various stakeholders to provide a functional built outcome.
Joining FPPV following completion of his studies, Matthew built upon his study interests in sensory perception and accessibility through the projects at Guide Dogs Victoria. Over a 9-year period, Matthew developed his design, documentation, project management and consultation skills through the various stages of project, concluding the project as the lead project architect. Matthew also has an interest in history and heritage; and has been able to develop his heritage experience through multiple projects at Parliament of Victoria, including Stone Works Restoration Stages 11 to 13, and various fitout and restoration works within the building.
Outside of the office, Matthew has been a volunteer with Edmund Rice Camps Victoria for 18 years, a not-for-profit that provides holiday experiences for disadvantaged children and families from around Victoria. Facilitating the camps as the camp manager, and delivering training to volunteers led Matthew to a role on the Edmund Rice Community Services Victorian Advisory Council, providing support to the organisation as it delivers camps, refugee tutoring and support services, as well as community development services in the north-western suburbs.
Matthew has experience with challenging situations and behaviours, and brings maturity and a strong sense of perspective to any project or task he undertakes.
